Counting down the days to be included in the Porsche Cayenne model family, the Performance Cayenne set a new record in the SUV category by completing the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife track in 7:38.925 minutes.
The Performance Cayenne, which will be included in the Porsche Cayenne SUV model family in the coming days and will be the new performance model of the series, demonstrated its potential at the Nürburgring. The Performance Cayenne, driven by test pilot Lars Kern and camouflaged as it has not yet been launched, completed a full 20,832 km lap in just 7:38,925 minutes on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. The lap time, which entered the official ranking of Nürburgring GmbH, was approved by the notary public and was recorded as a new record in the category of "SUV, off-road vehicle".
Lars Kern, who was also involved in the development of the model, said of the record: “When you sit inside the Cayenne, you feel the need to look behind the car to make sure you are in a really large SUV in the first few meters of the Nordschleife track. The high steering precision and the stable rear axle gave me a lot of confidence in the Hatzenbach division. In fast corners like the one between Hohe Acht and Eiskurve, it changed direction very quickly, showing no tendency to wobble or sway. Normally the wheels are off the ground on the Pflanzgarten I and II hills, but these sections felt smooth and quiet in Cayenne. Although there was a lot of wheel movement, the hull appeared to be firm and controlled. The powertrain really makes a strong impression. It provides power to the engine in all situations, as well as excellent gear shifting.”
An all-rounder typical of the typical Cayenne model
Stating that they focused on excellent off-road performance during the development of the Cayenne model, Cayenne Product Group Vice President Stefan Weckbach said: “Our record-breaking model is based on the Cayenne Turbo Coupé, although it is more systematically designed for maximum vertical and lateral dynamics. The record time at the Nordschleife confirms the dynamic capabilities of our new performance SUV. Moreover, the typical Cayenne is an all-around successful car, which at the same time provides a high degree of driving comfort and daily use.
Lars Kern's record lap at the Nordschleife was recorded as of 11:31 p.m. on June 14, 2021, with an outside temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a track temperature of 46 degrees Celsius, crossing the finish line after 7:38.925 minutes.
The record holder Cayenne is equipped with a racing seat and safety cage. The notary, who registered the record, also confirmed the mass production status of the lightly camouflaged SUV model and that it will make its world premiere shortly. The performance tires used for the record lap were the 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsas tires specially developed for the new Cayenne model and will be offered as standard.
