SSC (Shelby SuperCars) Tuatara received the title of 'the fastest car in the world', which is in mass production, after tests conducted on an old airfield closed to traffic.
This record of the SSC Tuatara, which had the title of 'the fastest mass production car in the world' with a speed of 508.7 kilometers per hour, was canceled. The reason for this was explained as a speedometer and GPS mismatch.
After this canceled record, Jerod Shelby, the company's CEO, was the second time behind the wheel of Tuatara. However, this trial had to be postponed to a later date due to technical failures.
SSC Tuatara hit the track for the third time and broke the record even though he could not reach the speed of his first attempt.
This time, the owner of the vehicle, Larry Caplin, was behind the wheel of a record attempt on an old airfield.
For the record, the vehicle was driven in two different directions. Tuatara achieved a speed of 460.4 kilometers in the south direction and a speed of 450.1 kilometers in the north direction.
SSC Tuatara, which broke the record at an average speed of 455.2 kilometers, managed to become 'the fastest mass production car in the world'.
SSC is expected to make a new test to reach the speed of 508.7 kilometers it achieved in its first attempt.
The Shelby SuperCars also broke the record at 412.22 km / h with the Ultimate Aero model in 2007.The top speed record was held by Koenigsegg Agera RS, which reached an average speed of 447.2 km/h and a maximum speed of 457 km / h in a two-way test in 2017.
Bugatti announced that it was the new owner of the record by announcing that it reached 490.48 km / h with the Chiron Super Sport 300+, but it was not considered valid on the grounds that it did not comply with the Guinness rule 'the test must be two-way to be valid'.
SSC Tuatara's 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine can produce 1750 horsepower when E85 fuel is used.
While only three Tuatara can be produced for now due to the Corona virus, this number is expected to increase to 12 in 2021 and to 25 in 2022. And 20 of these vehicles are already booked.
