Concept cars such as the IBE, Tribu and electric Toledo used in the Olympic Games in Barcelona, designed by the SEAT team in the past years, have now paved the way for the brand's design of modern cars and the rise of SUV models.
Concept cars are often described as design work that shapes the future. It is an excellent opportunity for designers to free their imagination and to draw the silhouettes of future cars. Concept cars show what future mass production models will look like. Here are 5 concept cars that guide the future of SEAT engineers;
Electric car for the Olympics
1992. As Barcelona struggled to prepare for the Olympic Games, SEAT engineers were busy with this event, a turning point for themselves. The exciting challenge they had to overcome was to create an electric vehicle concept to guide the Olympic torch and marathon event. The result was an electric Toledo weighing 500 kilograms, equipped with batteries and a range of 65 kilometers.
Today, this Toledo, which guides the cars of the future, and all the other symbolic vehicles of the brand are exhibited at the SEAT Zona Franca factory.

Road to SUVs Salsa Emocion
SEAT has three different SUV models: Arona, Ateca and Tarraco. SEAT's steps to this segment had been taken a long time ago. One of them was the Salsa Emocion model, which was designed in 2000 and more like a crossover style, but even then the architecture was similar to off-road vehicles. In 2007, SEAT presented the Tribu, a concept car with full SUV features. This model was the first indication that the brand would produce an SUV in the future.
IBE, current design
At the Paris Motor Show in 2010, SEAT presented its IBE concept car, a landmark in the design of the brand. With its dimensions, LED headlights and all other elements, it pointed to the design DNA of future models. The IBE clearly defined the design language of the third generation Leon. The vehicle, which has an electric engine producing 102 hp, was characterized by its determination to electrify the mobility of the future from 2010 onwards.
Hybrid corssover 20v20
Connectivity and mobility play a key role in SEAT's future strategy. One of the SEAT concept cars had many of these features in 2015. The 20v20 was a hybrid crossover vehicle with a futuristic approach to connectivity. At its center was the Personal Drive, a coin-shaped touch device with a mobile navigation system and a remote control used to activate the car's climate control.
